Jenene Nagy’s Tidal begins with the long rows of fluorescent bulbs, mounted about a foot above the floor, extend down Disjecta’s entryway, giving the invitation to viewers for the walk to the space is the first step. The gallery is enormous in space, build with the rafters. Jenene calls the piece “Tidal” as literally the painted magenta drywall planes move from the floor to the wall and are up to the rafters. Engaging the space as the whole is the key to site specific installation, giving viewers the experience of watching the work, rather than seeing.
